Tofting sentenced to four months

COPENHAGEN, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Bolton Wanderers' Danish midfielder Stig Tofting was sentenced on Tuesday to four months in jail for an assault in a Copenhagen restaurant. "Stig Tofting was convicted to four months in jail," a spokeswoman from the Copenhagen Court told Reuters. "He is now considering whether to appeal or not."

The incident happened at a Copenhagen restaurant in June when the 33-year-old, who received a suspended sentence for a violent incident in 1999, met his Danish team mates for a post-World Cup reunion in central Copenhagen. Tofting, nicknamed 'the lawn mower' due to his stocky build and bruising tackles, played a key role for Denmark as they topped their group at the 2002 World Cup finals before losing to England in the second round.
